Who we are

Pirate RSS (com.yoyo.rss) is an Android feed reader published on Google Play by yo yo. Last updated: October 12, 2026. Contact: yohaybn@gmail.com.

Pirate RSS works without an account. Your feed list, articles and settings are stored on your phone. The sections below list what leaves your phone, to whom, and why.

Data we collect

• Crash reports and diagnostics (always on): crash traces, device model, Android version and an app installation ID, sent to Firebase Crashlytics (Google) to find and fix bugs.
• Advertising: the app shows ads served by Google AdMob. Ads start only after you have used the app for a number of days and launches, set remotely. AdMob receives your device advertising ID and IP address and sets its own identifiers to serve and measure ads.
• Usage analytics (off by default): if you turn it on, Firebase Analytics receives app interaction events and an app-instance ID.
• Account (optional): if you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and a user ID through Google Sign-In and Firebase Authentication.
• Cloud backup (only when signed in): your settings (theme, speech speed and voice, digest hour, excluded sources, dismissed recommendations, language), your list of feeds and your saved articles are stored under your user ID in Firebase Realtime Database.
• Public feed catalog: when you add a feed, its address, title and category may be added to a shared public catalog in Firebase Firestore, to help other users find feeds. These entries do not include your account.

Features that send data to other services

• AI features (optional): if you enter your own Google Gemini API key and use translation, extraction, summaries or the spoken digest, the text of the article is sent to the Gemini API under your key. Google handles it under its own terms. The key stays on your phone and is not part of the cloud backup.
• Feedly search (optional): when enabled, your feed search terms are sent to Feedly.
• Feeds and articles: the app fetches the sites you subscribe to, so those sites see your IP address and the app's user agent. Embedded content in the in-app reader (for example social posts) loads from its provider. Site icons are fetched from Google's favicon service using the site's domain.
• Models (optional): translation and similar-article features can download model files only after you choose to. On-device translation and language detection use Google ML Kit; the text stays on your phone.

What we do not collect

The app does not ask for or collect your location, contacts, photos, files, microphone recordings, calendar, health or financial data. Permissions used: internet and network state, notifications, start on boot, and media playback service for the spoken digest.

How data is used

To run the app (account, backup, feeds), to find and fix crashes and measure performance, to show and measure ads, and, only if you turn it on, to understand how features are used. We do not sell your data. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).

Retention and deletion

Cloud backup data stays until you delete your account. You can delete it in the app (Account screen, Delete account). Full details of what is deleted and what is kept are on the account deletion page. Crash and ad data held by Google follow Google's retention rules and cannot be deleted by the app.

Your choices

• Use the app without signing in.
• Keep usage analytics off (default).
• Do not enter a Gemini key or enable Feedly search to keep that data on your phone.
• Manage ad personalization in your Android settings (Settings, Google, Ads).

Children

Pirate RSS is not directed at children under 13.
